The school was established on 1 September 1989. In 1994, the school was given the name „Šaltinis“. In 2012, the structure of the school was restructured, changing its type from a secondary school to a comprehensive school, in 2014 - from a comprehensive school to a gymnasium. The legal form of the progymnasium is a budgetary institution. The main purpose is to organize and implement educational programmes and to issue documents legitimising pupils' learning achievements. The purpose of the progymnasium activities is to provide pre-primary, primary, first part of the basic curriculum, non-formal education and to develop an independent, responsible person who wants to learn throughout life, improve his/her abilities, help him/her acquire the personal, civic and social cultural competences necessary for successful further learning, gaining a foothold in the world of professional activity, creative participation in the civic, cultural and social life of the country. More than 600 pupils between the ages of 6 and 15 are enrolled in the school.
The progymnasium is lead by the director who reports directly to the mayor of Raseiniai District Municipality and is responsible to the council of Raseiniai District Municipality. The following self-government institutions operate in the progymnasium: the progymnasium council, the teachers' council, the methodological council, the students' council, and the class parents' committee.
The progymnasium has 83 employees. Students are educated by 53 highly qualified teachers. Pupils with special needs are assisted by a speech therapist, a psychologist, a social educator and 4 teaching assistants, who pay great attention to the development of social emotional competencies in the educational process.
All teachers‘ workstations are equipped with computers with internet access and multimedia projectors. There is a wireless internet connection in the progymnasium building. There are three computer classes, a language laboratory, a multifunctional space and an active leisure area.
Every year the progymnasium has been awarded the Green Flag for its achievements in the field of sustainable development in education and purposeful strengthening of the environmental role of the progymnasium and society, consistently implementing the Environmentally-friendly Schools program since 2008. By participating in the activities of Raseiniai Saltinis Progymnasium in the activities of the Network of Environmentally-friendly Schools, it not only spreads its name, but also the whole district in the international context.
Since 2009, the progymnasium has been a member of the Network of Health Promoting Schools. Through the school community and social partners, students develop healthy lifestyle skills and create a physical and psychosocial environment.
The school is a member of the Lithuanian Association of Social Emotional Education and has organized two practical conferences on social emotional education. By implementing consistent social emotional education and creating a psychologically and emotionally safe progymnasium environment, all students in grades 1-8 participate in the LIONS QUEST programs for social and emotional education “Time Together” and “Crossroads of Adolescence”. 1-4 grades students annually participate in the social emotional education olympiad "Elephant".
Since 2007, the school has been implementing projects funded by the Education Exchanges Support Foundation. It is currently a member of the consortium for the ERASMUS + project NR. 2020-1-LT01-KA101-077644 “Experiential education. Growing up I grow responsibly ".
It has been involved in eTwinning since 2013. Three projects have been awarded European Quality Labels for quality implementation of project activities, and teachers are invited to the final eTwinning event.
Students were offered 28 non-formal education programs for sports, art, technical and other self-expression programs. 90 percent of students attend classes. Every year, the school is among the ten most sporty schools in Lithuania. The youth folk dance ensemble constantly glorifies the name of the school on the dance days of the Lithuania’s Song Celebration. The strength of the progymnasium is the purposeful involvement of students' parents and social partners in the school's traditional cultural events and other activities.
